3 out of work managers who could be in line to replace Rafa Benitez at Everton

While Everton might have snatched that stunning late winner against Arsenal last week, it appears that might have just been an ever so minor boost for the Toffees.

Really failing to build off of that momentum, Rafa Benitez’s struggling side put in another hugely worrying display at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon as they suffered a 3-1 loss in the capital.

Still sat down in 14th and appearing a million miles off mounting any kind of European charge, it is no secret that Benitez has failed to win over large sections of the Goodison Park fanbase since making his Merseyside return over the summer.

Winning just one of their previous 10 Premier League contests, the former Liverpool boss finds growing pressure on his position after what has become a nightmare run.

Seen as the leading contender to be the next top-flight manager given the boot, we have taken a look at a few candidates who could be an option to replace Benitez at Goodison.

Nuno Espirito Santo

Prior to Nuno Espirito Santo making the move to Tottenham earlier in the year, it was heavily reported that the former Wolves boss was in discussions to replace Carlo Ancelotti on Merseyside.

However, while Everton might have missed out on one of their potential options over the summer, the Blues’ hierarchy could be tempted to reopen discussions with Nuno sooner rather than later.

Enduring what quickly became a real struggle in north London, the 47-year-old lasted just 17 games in the Tottenham dugout as he was given his marching orders on November 1st.

Although some Everton fans might be concerned by Nuno’s rather worrying problems during his brief tenure at Spurs, he does host a string of Premier League experience and has made it no secret that he is looking to jump straight back in.

Frank Lampard

While it might have looked almost nailed on last month that Frank Lampard would be the new man in charge at Norwich, the former Chelsea icon still finds himself without a new challenge.

Making it clear that he is desperate to kick-start of managerial career, the ex-England skipper has now been on the sidelines since leaving Stamford Bridge back in January.

Although Lampard might have been disappointed to have seen his reign come to an end after guiding the Blues to a top-four finish, a potential return at Goodison Park could match the 47-year-old’s criteria.

Gaining plenty of plaudits for his attacking approach during his time at Championship outfit Derby, there is no doubt that the arrival of Lampard at Goodison Park would certainly offer Everton fans a real boost both on and off the pitch.

Andrea Pirlo

Watching Ancelotti make the decision to make his return to Real Madrid over the summer, could Everton be interested in appointing another superstar name if they choose to part ways with Benitez?

Although the Toffees might be dealing with some financial issues behind the scenes, this is not the first time that they have been linked with a potential move for Andrea Pirlo.

Another name that was reported to be on Everton’s shortlist to replace Ancelotti, the 42-year-old has been out of a job since he left Juventus over the summer following what was a rollercoaster campaign in Turin.

However, while Pirlo is certainly a name that offers huge appeal from across Europe, his arrival would be a risky appointment given his lack of coaching experience, despite guiding Juve to a top-four finish last season.
