With the weekend’s European fixtures opening up on Friday, we are offered a host of noteworthy meetings from across the continent. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a Friday acca, we have searched far and wide to find you a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.
Friday 30th October
BST 17:30 Hamburg vs St. Pauli
Starting with Friday’s hosts, putting on a second-half clinic away at Würzburger Kickers last weekend, Hamburg secured a thumping 3-1 win on the road and have continued on a stellar start to the New Year. Already seen as a landslide pick to reclaim their Bundesliga status this season, Die Rothosen have won all five of their opening second-tier contests so far this season and have already secured themselves a five-point buffer at the top of the table. With the mood in Daniel Thioune’s camp at a real high and his side enjoying quite the free-scoring start, Hamburg have scored six goals in back-to-back appearances and have one leading marksman enjoying his own stellar start. Once again bagging a brace on the road last time out, Simon Terodde has already racked up six goals so far this season and should be confident of extending on that tally on Friday evening. While St. Pauli might have managed to mount a late comeback against Darmstadt and came from two goals down to snatch a point on the road, the guests have managed to win just one of their opening five Bundesliga II outings and have shown some continued issues at the back. Along with a 4-1 drumming against Werder Bremen in a friendly contest during the international break, it is hard to see anything other than a routine evening for a high-flying Hamburg.
Tip: Hamburg win & Hamburg to score over 1.5 goals @ 4/5
19:30 Schalke vs Stuttgart
While Stuttgart might have been disappointed to have seen Koln come from behind and grab a point last weekend, Die Roten have shocked many after making their Bundesliga return over the summer. Opening Friday’s trip to the VELTINS-Arena knowing that they have a golden chance to break into the Champions League positions, Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men are unbeaten in each of their last four top-flight appearances on the bounce. Also managing to keep the mood in their camp at a red-hot high after landing a 3-0 romp away at Freiburg in a friendly contest during the October international break, Stuggart have also impressed thanks to some very eye-catching performances on the road. Last seen away from the Mercedes-Benz-Arena picking up a 2-0 win against Hertha Berlin, they also put on a thumping display as they hit Mainz for four last month. Looking to cash in on what is a Schalke outfit in the midst of an extended crisis, Stuttgart will be confident of laying down another marker. Slumping to an empathic 3-0 defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Borussia Dortmund last week, the Royal Blues have managed to pick up just a single point from their opening five Bundesliga outings. Opening up the 2020/2021 campaign with a woeful 8-0 drumming against Bayern Munich last month, we’re backing another tough night for the relegation scrappers.
Tip: Stuttgart win @ 11/10
19:45 Coventry vs Reading
Starting with Friday’s guests, putting on another clinic earlier in the week, Reading managed to hit play-off hopefuls Blackburn for four at Ewood Park and the Royals have shocked almost everyone across the Championship this season. Enjoying a glittering purple patch and really finding their feet under new boss Veljko Paunović, the second-tier high-flyers have skyrocketed their way to the top of the table and suddenly find themselves already holding a six-point buffer. Collecting 22 points from their opening eight appearances and with their remarkable run showing no signs of slowing down, Reading have now recorded seven goals in their last two outings and Paunović will be boosted by Lucas João’s individual start to the New Year. Once again finding the net in their 4-2 win against Blackburn on Tuesday night, the 27-year-old has got himself on the scoresheet in his last three matchups on the spin and has eight goals across all formats so far. On the flip side, while Reading might be enjoying a stellar start, Coventry have really struggled since stepping up from League One over the summer. Hit with a late 2-0 defeat away at Middlesbrough in midweek, Friday’s hosts have lost back-to-back matchups, including a 4-0 drumming against Blackburn last weekend. Collecting just five points from their opening eight appearances, we’re backing another fruitful night on the road for Reading this week.
Tip: Reading win @ 13/10
