8th October: Thursday’s Football Accumulator – 6/1

With the midweek schedule taken over by the return of international football, we aren’t short of action throughout Thursday. On that note, for those of you looking to stick on a midweek acca, we have found you a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Thursday 8th October

BST 03:00 Seattle Sounders vs Real Salt Lake

Starting with the MLS in midweek, Seattle will be looking to cash in on what has been an eye-catching run of form after what was another dominant display over the weekend. Managing to extend their spot at the top of the Western Conference to three points, the Greens have now landed back-to-back 3-1 victories against Vancouver and LA Galaxy. With many tipping Brian Schmetzer’s men as one of the leading contenders to reclaim their domestic crown this season, the Sounders have really managed to find their feet after a tricky start to September. Enjoying what has been a real free-scoring run of form and winning four of their last five MLS matchups, including a glittering 7-1 romp against San Jose last month, it should also be noted that Seattle hold the second-best attacking record in either the Western or the Eastern Conferences. Seeing Thursday’s matchup in Washington as a real chance to lay down another marker, it could be worth keeping an eye out for leading marksman, Raul Ruidiaz. Once again finding the net against Vancouver last time out, the 30-year-old has four in his last four and also leads the MLS goalscoring charts with eight strikes altogether. While Seattle might have managed to secure their own 3-1 victory over the weekend, Real Salt Lake fell to an identical scoreline against LAFC and have really struggled since making a return to action. Managing to win just one of their last five appearances, Thursday’s guests have also remarkably managed to land just a sole victory on their travels throughout 2020. With Seattle landing a 2-0 win the last time Claret and Cobalt came to town, we’re backing a similar outcome in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Tip: Seattle Sounders win and over 1.5 goals @ 5/6

19:45 Scotland vs Israel

Last seen putting in what was another impressive performance away in the Czech Republic while in on Nations League duties last month, the mood around Hampden does appear to be at a continued high. Securing a 2-1 win on foreign soil against a Czech outfit that had previously beat England just 12 months ago, the Tartan Army have gained plenty of plaudits for their recent performances under Steve Clarke. While Thursday’s hosts might not have been able to secure an automatic route to next year’s delayed European Championships, despite their late flurry, Scotland have now collected 13 points over their last five matchups across all competitions. With a 1-1 draw against the midweek guests the only ever so minor blip on their otherwise stellar record, the former Kilmarnock boss has seen his side really impress with their new-found clinical edge. Including signing off their qualifying campaign with three wins on the bounce, they also managed to end proceedings with an eye-catching 3-1 win against Kazakhstan. Knowing they’re just two games away from securing their spot at EURO 2021, Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn should be looking to spearhead their charge in Glasgow. Along with finding the net in that famous 7-2 win against Liverpool over the weekend, the 25-year-old has now bagged six goals in just his last five international appearances. On the flip side, while Israel might have managed to open their Nations League campaign with back-to-back 1-1 draws against the Scots and Slovakia, Willibald Ruttensteiner’s men could be in for a tough test at Hampden. Needing to come from behind to scrape their point away in Glasgow last month, they have continued to drastically struggle with their form on the road. With just one win to their name over the past 16 months, they have also failed to win any of their last five contests on the road, losing four of those appearances.

Tip: Scotland win @ 1/1

19:45 Norway vs Serbia

Starting with Thursday’s hosts, while Norway might have opened their Nations League campaign with what was a shock 2-1 defeat at home against Austria last month, Lars Lagerbäck’s men certainly bounced back in some style. Putting on a real clinic and making a return to winning ways in empathic fashion, the Lions picked up a thumping 5-1 win away at Northern Ireland. Signing off their European qualifying campaign with a 2-1 win against Malta on foreign soil, the Reds have remarkably lost just one of their last 11 matchups across all formats, a run that stems back to March 2019. Looking to move one step closer to booking their spot at EURO 2021, there is no doubt that Lagerbäck will be calling on a red-hot Erling Håland to lead their charge in midweek. Enjoying what has been a stunning rise to superstardom and only continuing to build his reputation since making the move to German giants Borussia Dortmund, the 20-year-old bagged a brace against Freiburg last weekend. Already bagging five goals in his opening four appearances for BVB since opening the New Year, the former Red Bull Salzburg striker has also bagged three goals in back-to-back matchups while on international duties. Coming up against a Serbia side who have shown some recent issues since returning from the enforced break, Håland should be confident of extending on his tally in midweek. Last seen settling for a point against Turkey in this year’s Nations League, Ljubiša Tumbaković’s men have failed to win any of their last three matchups on the bounce for the first time in 16 months. It should also be noted, Thursday’s guests have won just one of their last six contests on foreign soil, including 3-1 and 5-0 defeats against Russia and Ukraine.

Tip: Erling Håland to score anytime @ 11/1
