Alaves welcome Barcelona to the Estadio Mendizorroza in the late kick off (start time) on Saturday night, and Joselu Mato is convinced that the Basque side can get a positive result.

Barcelona travelled to Italy in midweek to take on Juventus and ended up beating the Bianconeri 2-0 thanks to goals from Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi.

“Barcelona are one of the best teams in the world. Last year we were beaten in both games,” Joselu said.

“We have to come into the match with a good mentality. It’s going to be difficult and the few chances we have, we have to score.

“In terms of players and economically they are very strong, [it will be] difficult to match their level, but with work you can make the most of it. They are not invincible and you can win.

“We have to be a very hard-working team and make more sacrifices than in other games; we won’t be able to have much possession.

“We play at home and we must go out onto the pitch with a good mentality, so that the fans who are seeing us through the television are proud of us and what we do.”

Referencing Barcelona’s win over Juventus, Joselu looked at Alvaro Morata’s hat-trick of offside goals with optimism.

“We strikers are working hard, it will be another day of work in another way, with less control of the ball, and trying to materialise the chances we have will be key,” Joselu explained.

“I’m sure that [the coach, Pablo Machin] will have an ace up his sleeve; they are games that are analysed a lot, and we know the difficulty of the game with very fast players up top.

“In addition, we will have to cover up [Lionel] Messi’s passes to the wingers so that we do not get caught in behind our full-backs. It will be a very difficult match.”
