Formula 1 Recovering from injury
Fernando Alonso is now being forced to undergo extra preparation for the 2021 Formula 1 season, recovering from a cycling accident, however the Spaniard remains focused on the job even though he predicts that Mercedes will be once again dominant in the coming season.
Wholesale rules and specification changes are due in 2022, which is the year Alonso is looking towards with regards to his first real chance of success, however there is still one remaining season under the old specifications, with which Mercedes has taken every single championship on offer.
“Realistically, we have to keep our feet on the ground, knowing that even if there are some changes for this year, they are minor, so the performance won’t be too different to last year,” Alonso explained to the official F1 Magazine.
“I think Mercedes is going to be ahead of everyone, and then we will see Red Bull.
“It looks like there will be a very close fight between some teams and then there will be Alpine.”
When pressed on his own expectations for the campaign, Alonso was rather more holistic, suggesting that a top ten position would be a regular aim.
“I think it will be very close, we could fight for six or seventh place, or be in fifteenth place with ease,” he added.
“Our goal is to at least be in the top ten.
“After the winter tests you can get an idea about your car and dream about where you will be in the first race, right now I’m not thinking about it too much.”
