Australian Open 2021 Tested positive for COVID-19 in UK
Andy Murray will not take part in the 2021 Australian Open after his preparations for the tournament were hit by a positive coronavirus test.
The former world No.1 tested positive for COVID-19 just before he was set to take a flight from the UK to Melbourne, Australia.
Having to self-isolate at home in London and then again once he arrived in Australia meant competing in the first Grand Slam of the year an impossible task, it seems.
“We’ve been in constant dialogue with Tennis Australia to try and find a solution which would allow some form of workable quarantine, but we couldn’t make it work,” Murray said.
“I want to thank everyone there for their efforts. I’m devastated not to be playing out in Australia. It’s a country and tournament that I love.”
