Antonio Conte gives update on Tottenham’s January transfer plans

Antonio Conte has revealed that he will discuss transfers with the Spurs hierarchy in the coming days ahead of the January window, though insisted he hasn’t been able to give much thought to incomings and outgoings due to the club’s recent Covid-19 outbreak.

Tottenham’s last three games have all been postponed due to a rapid surge in positive cases at the club, and they could have up to four games in hand on their rivals by the time they’re due to return to action against Liverpool on Sunday.

Conte was asked about his plans for the upcoming transfer window, admitting that he and Spurs’ recruitment staff are finding ways to ‘improve the squad’.

“In this moment, we are not thinking about the transfer window. We have had many problems to face and to try to solve that, it was very difficult to speak about other topics,” Conte began.

“For sure in the next days we will try to have a meeting about the situation, [to see] if there is a way to improve the squad in [whichever] way.”

While Spurs could dip their toes into the winter market, Conte has not ruled out finding new solutions from within the existing squad, suggesting players could step up in light of the club’s recent Covid woes.

“In this moment I’m making evaluations about the whole squad. Covid also could be a good chance or opportunity for someone to show they deserve to play for Tottenham,” he added.

The likes of Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Davinson Sanchez have all been linked away with moves from Spurs following Conte’s arrival, though the latter two have featured a fair amount under the Italian.
