Athletic Club Appears to confirm San Mames return
Javi Martinez: Athletic Club are letting me have the No.2 shirt
Javi Martinez may have just let slip the news of his imminent return to Athletic Club.
The midfielder left the Bilbao club in 2012 but, in his latest training session for Bayern Munich, he may have just confirmed a move back to San Mames.
Bayern uploaded a video of Friday’s training session on social media, during which you can hear a conversation between Martinez and two other Spanish speakers in the group – Thiago and Lucas Hernandez.
“They let me have the No.2,” Martinez can be heard saying to his teammates, presumably referring to the No.2 shirt at Athletic.
“The mythical one of [Gaizka] Toquero!” Thiago and Lucas responded, laughing.
The No.2 is the only shirt not yet taken by an Athletic player this season.
Mikel Balenciaga wears the No.24 – Martinez’s number from his first spell at Athletic.

As MARCA have already reported, Martinez will sign a two-year deal at San Mames, which could be extended to three.
The transfer is likely to cost Los Leones 10 million euros – 30 million euros less than what Bayern paid them for Martinez eight years ago.
