With draws against Celta Vigo, Levante, Real Madrid and Getafe and defeat to Levante at home, Atletico Madrid have now dropped 11 of the last 24 points up for grabs in LaLiga Santander.
After a run of eight straight wins, these poor results have allowed Real Madrid and Barcelona back into the title race. They’re just six points ahead of their city rivals, while Los Blancos have a better head-to-head record after winning at Valdebebas and drawing at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
Barcelona are in third but could move just four points behind Atletico with a victory against bottom side Huesca on Monday, which would really turn up the pressure on Diego Simeone‘s side.
There are two matches remaining between the top three clubs in the league which could prove decisive. Simeone‘s men visit Barcelona when there will be just four games remaining in the season, and the winner of El Clasico on April 11 will also be in a prime position to hunt down Atletico in the league run-in.
A few weeks ago this league title looked almost certainly destined for the Wanda Metropolitano, but now it’s all to play for.
