Atletico Madrid Mexican could leave this summer
Hector Herrera faces an uncertain future at Atletico Madrid.
The Mexican only arrived at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano last summer but he hasn’t managed to hold down a starting place in Diego Simeone’s team.
He finished the campaign with 30 appearances, including a start in Thomas Partey’s absence against RB Leipzig in the Champions League quarter-finals in August.
Now Marcos Llorente is playing in a more advanced role, Herrera has become the main back-up to the midfield trio of Thomas, Koke and Saul Niguez.
As a result, Atletico would be willing to listen to offers for the former Porto captain during the current transfer window.
Moving Herrera on would free up some room on the wage bill and provide some transfer funds for Atletico to use themselves.
