Serie A Criticised approach to COVID-19
Mario Balotelli has criticised Italy’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic as the country is in the midst of more strict measures to curb the spread of infections.
Italy was the European epicentre of the first wave of COVID-19 in March 2020 and is now finding itself battling rising case and death numbers once more.
“Lads, Italy is Italy, what more can I say?” Balotelli, currently playing for Monza in Serie B, said on Instagram.
“It might well be the most beautiful country in the world, but it’s in decline because of a few people who are giving me tummy ache.
“I’m not right-wing or left-wing. I’ve never taken political positions. But the [COVID-19] cases are rising again and I really don’t understand why we had to spend Christmas and New Year like that.
“They closed up and then they locked us down again and now, can anyone explain to me what kind of red zone this is?
“There is almost double the amount of traffic as usual. All this effort… for another lockdown? Can those in charge of Italy not manage the country in a healthy and honest way?”
