Getafe Impressive start for both players
Carles Alena and Takefusa Kubo both made an impressive impact on their Getafe debuts during Los Azulones‘ 3-1 win away at Elche on Monday night.
Jose Bordalas opted to go away from his typical 4-4-2 system and went for a 4-2-3-1, which allowed Alena to play as the No.10.
The 23-year-old had not played a LaLiga Santander match since last July, yet he completed 88 percent of his passes – 51 out of 58 – and created four chances to score. And best of all, he made things easier for his teammates.
That was also the case with Kubo, who came on for the final 30 minutes. In that time he did enough to show the Getafe fans what he is capable of, as he created danger every time he was on the ball.
In fact, Kubo was involved in the second and third goals for Bordalas’ side. His shot from just inside the area was parried into the path of Jaime Mata, who fired home from close range, and then it was Kubo‘s cross towards Angel Rodriguez that ended in Getafe being awarded a penalty. Angel then converted the spot-kick.
Bordalas changed his system in order to accommodate his new players, and it worked.
“With not much time – Alena with the group and Take Kubo who has not trained – they have already made a good impression,” Bordalas said after the 3-1 victory.
“This group has opened the door to both of them with open arms. It is fantastic. We are very happy with the arrival of two players who want to help.”
In addition, when asked about Kubo‘s debut, the Getafe boss explained that he had spoken to the 19-year-old and shared why he was happy to bring him on, despite not having trained with his new team.
“I was speaking with the boy for days. We were in contact, he arrived in Madrid last Friday in a complicated situation, he had to go home and to isolate himself,” Bordalas noted.
“We talked about what our team is, where he could help us on the pitch. Today, during the stay at the hotel, I explained to him what he could bring [to the team] if he came on and he did it very well. He created two chances, one was the 1-2 and the other was the penalty to Angel. They are coming to help the team.”
