Atletico Madrid are feeling the pressure, and Barcelona are breathing down the LaLiga Santander leaders’ necks.
Following Atleti’s draw at Getafe, Barcelona beat Huesca 4-1 on Monday to go within four points of top spot.
Real Madrid are two points further back, and Sevilla are then six more points behind in fourth place.
There are still 11 games to play and 33 points to play for, showing that a lot can still change yet.
The only thing that has already been decided is that Real Madrid boast a superior head to head over Atletico, having beaten them and drawn this season. They also beat both Barcelona and Sevilla, giving them a slight advantage ahead of their second games this season.
Atletico Madrid are the only team who depend only on their own results. If they win every game between now and the end of the season, they win the title. They can afford one more slip and to still have that luxury.
But just one slip would open the door to Barcelona, who could then have things in their own hands.
Sevilla-Atletico, Real Madrid-Barcelona, Barcleona-Atletico, Real Madrid-Sevilla are all still to come.
Atletico visit Sevilla after the international break, and the season’s second Clasico is the following week.
