Barcelona consider Adama Traore as Ousmane Dembele replacement

Barcelona are considering a move for Adama Traore should Ousmane Dembele leave the club this month.

Dembele’s future has been the subject of intense speculation over the past few months with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. Despite, Barcelona setting a string of deadlines for his renewal, a breakthrough in talks is looking increasingly unlikely.

Most recently it was reported that Barça had finally lost patience with Dembele and the Blaugrana are now actively looking to sell the winger in January.

According to Sport, should Dembele find a new club the Blaugrana will target Traore as his replacement. The Wolves man came through the youth ranks at Barça but failed to make a dent in the first team, appearing just once in La Liga.

This prompted him to depart his boyhood club for Aston Villa in 2015, and since then he has carved out a reputation as one of the most fearsome dribblers in England.

Tottenham are known to be interested in the Spaniard, who can play in either wide forward position, as a wing-back and even down the middle as a striker. As 90min reported last week, Spurs are readying a £22m bid after Wolves gave Traore the green light to depart.

However, a return to Barcelona is now also on the cards.

Traore is understood to still be in touch with Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto, whom he spent time with during his first spell with the club. He also has a pre-existing relationship with Ferran Torres, who recently signed from Manchester City.

Although his ability to take on players has not diminished, Traore’s numbers have been disappointing over the past few seasons. Last term he managed just two goals and three assists in 37 Premier League games and this time around he has been even less prolific, netting once in 19 matches.
