Barcelona During his interview on Friday
There were certain moments during Lionel Messi’s interview that the Argentine almost burst into tears while making known his decision to see out his contract at Barcelona.
The first came when he explained how much he suffered during the 2019/20 campaign.
“I felt very sorry because I always said that I wanted to finish my career here,” Messi said in his interview for Goal.com.
“It was a very difficult year, I suffered a lot in training, in games and in the dressing room.
“Everything became very difficult for me and there came a time when I considered looking for new ambitions.
“It did not come because of the Champions League result against Bayern [Munich], no – I had been thinking about the decision for a long time.”
Messi also became very emotional when he stressed that he would never opt for a solution at the courts with Barcelona.
“I never wanted to go to court with Barcelona because it’s the club that I love,” he noted.
“My life was made in Barcelona; I grew up here and experienced everything here.”
The Barcelona captain also revealed his family’s reaction when he informed them of his decision to leave the club.
“When I communicated my wish to leave to my wife and children, it was a brutal drama,” Messi said.
“The whole family began crying, my children did not want to leave Barcelona, nor did they want to change schools.
“But I looked further afield and I want to compete at the highest level, win titles [and] compete in the Champions League.”
