FC Barcelona – La Liga Against Sevilla and then PSG
Barcelona are not making life easy for themselves if they are to come away from this season with anything to show for it, as they now require two big comebacks in the space of a week to stay alive in the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
On March 3, the Blaugrana will host Sevilla in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final, needing to overhaul a 2-0 deficit from the first leg.
Then, one week later, on March 10, they will travel to France tasked with another monumental comeback after going down 4-1 at home to Paris Saint-Germain.
In short, in the space of a week, Barcelona need, in the best of circumstances, to win 3-0 and 4-0 respectively against high-quality opposition.
The Copa del Rey had been viewed by some at the Camp Nou as the shortest route to a trophy this season, but now that shortcut looks a very hazardous one indeed.
Sevilla are on fire under Julen Lopetegui, sitting just one point behind Barcelona in LaLiga Santander and with 11 wins in 13 games in 2021. Only Chelsea have scored more than two goals in one game against Sevilla this season.
As for PSG away, well that looks an even tougher ask for Ronald Koeman‘s men, but after the humiliation of Tuesday night it will be imperative that they restore some pride if nothing else.
They have history, of course, of pulling off a spectacular comeback against the Parisian club, with the 2017 last-16 tie still alive in the memory, but four years ago Barcelona had the advantage of playing the second leg at home.
This is a week which will define Barcelona‘s season, without mentioning the trip to Pamplona in the middle, where taking three points from Osasuna will also be a necessity.
