Barcelona: Planes: There are no negotiations with Manchester United for Dembele

Barcelona Planning to use him this season

Ramon Planes, the head of Barcelona’s sporting department, has denied reports that claim there are negotiations between the Catalan club and Manchester United over Ousmane Dembele.

After Ronaldo Koeman suggested on Thursday night that Dembele has a place in his plans, the director went one step further.

“There are no negotiations with Manchester United,” he said during the press conference for the arrival of Sergino Dest.

“He’s a player we’re counting on.

“We know his potential and we hope he can show his best, with all the changes there have been in the team.

“We hope to enjoy his potential and footballing talent.

“I’m sure he’ll have a good year for us.”

Planes was also asked if Barcelona would be strengthening by signing Eric Garcia from Manchester City or Memphis Depay from Lyon.

“We have a good squad that has been competing well,” he said.

“There are always areas that can be improved and we’re working with the coach, with daily communication.

“Offensively we have a lot of potential, while I think it’s a little thinner defensively.

“We’ll work until the final day of the market to build the best squad.

“But we won’t just sign someone for the sake of it.

“There will be another transfer window soon too.”

Finally, he explained what Barcelona saw in Dest, who joins from Ajax.

“This is a happy day as we present Dest,” he said.

“We’ve fought hard to bring him in as he is a player for the future who also comes to fill out the squad in a position we were looking for.

“He has a lot of potential and I want to thank him for the push he made to come here.

“We’re signing a player with an offensive style and who’ll fit our philosophy and who’ll adapt quickly to the DNA of this club.”
