Real Madrid – La Liga One last test on Sunday ahead of Atalanta
The bad news just keeps coming at Real Madrid. Karim Benzema‘s injury was confirmed, showing a small tear in his left adductor that practically rules him out of the trip to face Atalanta on Wednesday.
Zinedine Zidane said after the game that Benzema will undergo an MRI scan on Sunday, and the results of that will decide whether he’ll travel to Bergamo or not.
The club don’t want to be categorical just yet, so his availability won’t be known until Zidane names his squad for the trip on Monday evening.
Benzema‘s importance isn’t in doubt, and the No.9 would make a difference against Atalanta, but Real Madrid know that caution is needed and another injury would be a disaster. A relapse for the Frenchman would see him out for a prolonged spell.
While awaiting a miracle, Zidane is drawing up a list of survivors to take with him to Italy, where they’ll face a side who are more dangerous than their name suggests.
Fede Valverde will hopefully return to the side, but the Uruguayan will be lacking rhythm as he hasn’t played for six games and hasn’t featured since January 20.
Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal, Eden Hazard, Eder Militao, Alvaro Odriozola, Rodrygo Goes and Marcelo are all missing.
Zidane, as a result, will turn to the Castilla players to fill out his squad again.
