In what could prove to be an action-packed Ligue 1 affair this weekend, Marseille will make the trip to the Stadium de Toulouse on Sunday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Toulouse might have only made their Ligue 1 return this season, Philippe Montanier’s men are enjoying a real top-flight purple patch. In the midst of what has been a stellar run of form on either side of the World Cup’s winter break, Les Violets have their sights firmly set on securing a top-half finish in 2023. Last seen putting in yet another stellar performance as they claimed a thumping 3-1 win at home against Rennes, the one-time Nottingham Forest boss has seen his side come skyrocketing up the Ligue 1 standings. Likewise, extending on their Coupe de France adventure on February 8th as they picked up another 3-1 victory against Reims, Toulouse have remarkably suffered just a single domestic defeat since opening the New Year. It should be noted, Sunday’s hosts have seen each of their last five domestic contests finish with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, while Marseille might have opened February with a downbeat display as they slumped to a 3-1 loss at home against Nice, Les Phoceens have come roaring back. Along with claiming a thrilling Coupe de France victory against defending champions PSG earlier in the month, Igor Tudor’s side have suffered just a single domestic defeat since returning from the festive interval. Opening this weekend’s fixtures sat just five points adrift of Les Parisiens and cruising towards another Champions League spot, OM have impressed with their flurries in the final third. Last seen on Ligue 1 action landing a deserved 2-0 win away at Clermont, Marseille will be desperate for a repeat display this weekend. However, in a top-flight showdown that does tend to produce fireworks, we’re backing both teams to find the net on Sunday night.
