The World Boxing Council have recognised both Tyson Fury and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in their 2020 awards.

With fewer fights than usual in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, there was a more limited selection to choose from, but Fury won Comeback of the Year, while his fight against Deontay Wilder was also named as Fight of the Year.

“Britain’s Tyson Fury, who’s the former world heavyweight champion, returned to the ring in almost Lazarus  fashion, after nearly two and a half years of absence, having defeated Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015,” the WBC wrote.

Alvarez won the Fans Choice Award, as well as being part of the Event of the Year for his fight against Gennady Golovkin.

Eddy Reynoso, who was key in Alvarez’s success, was named Trainer of the Year.

Eddy has dedicated himself to transforming the young and promising Guadalajara amateur fighter into the very best fighter and champion,” the WBC wrote.
