In Karim Benzema‘s absence, it was Casemiro who stepped up for Real Madrid on Saturday.

With the champions struggling more than ever for goals, Casemiro has delivered. In fact, he’s the second top goalscorer this season with six goals, behind only Benzema.

Casemiro‘s header at Real Valladolid was his fourth headed goal of 2020/21 and it allowed Los Blancos to unlock a defence that they had struggled to get through. It was a Toni Kroos cross that allowed him to head home, and that same combination had come close to opening the scoring prior to the goal.

With captain Sergio Ramos out, as well as Benzema, the Brazilian has grown hungry for goals and took on the responsibility for Los Blancos.

That KroosCasemiro combination has worked before, and Saturday’s goal was the third assist the German claimed for his midfield partner.

“The credit goes to Toni,” the Brazilian said after the game. “He always delivers well. I think I had three chances and I scored the third.

“Toni puts them in with his hand.”
