Charlotte FC have picked up free agent goalkeeper Adrian Zendejas, the club announced Sunday.
The 26-year-old player joins the Major League Soccer expansion side from Minnesota United FC on a contract through the 2023 season, with a club option for 2024.

Zendejas kicked off his MLS career in 2016 with Sporting Kansas City. He spent four seasons with the Western Conference side before joining Nashville SC for a year and Minnesota United for two.
He made 42 appearances for Sporting’s USL affiliate Swope Park Rangers (now known as Sporting Kansas City II) from 2017 to 2019.
The goalkeeper spent last year on loan with USL Championship side El Paso Locomotive, where he recorded three clean sheets.
“We’re excited to welcome Adrian to Charlotte FC to complete our goalkeeping group for 2022. He’s gained good experience playing in the USL Championship and has proven he can step in when called upon in MLS play,” Charlotte sporting director Zoran Krneta said in a release.
“We wanted to provide goalkeeper coach Andy Quy with a strong, well-rounded group of four goalkeepers and this signing, along with the drafting of George Marks, will help provide that healthy competition as we start preseason this week.”
Zendejas now joins goalkeepers George Marks, a 2022 MLS SuperDraft pick out of Clemson, Kristijan Kahlina and Pablo Sisniega on Charlotte FC’s roster.
The expansion team is set to make their Major League Soccer debut on February 26 against D.C. United at Audi Field, before hosting LA Galaxy for their first ever home game on March 5.
