Christian Eriksen attracting interest from Premier League clubs

A number of Premier League clubs are lining up moves for Christian Eriksen as the playmaker seeks a return to competitive football this month.

Eriksen has been out of action since suffering a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland back in June.

He has since been fitted with an internal defibrillator, which led to a mutual termination of his Inter contract as Serie A rules forbid footballers from playing with one.

However, Eriksen has been medically cleared for a return to competitive football and the Daily Mail write that he is attracting interest from the Premier League.

Clubs from his native Denmark and the Netherlands – where Eriksen started his professional career with Ajax – are also in the running for his signature.

The midfielder spent six-and-a-half seasons in England with Tottenham, establishing himself as one of Europe’s top creators.

Following Spurs’ run to the 2019 Champions League final, Eriksen expressed his desire to leave the Premier League and try a new challenge, spurning the advances of Manchester United and eventually sealing a move to Inter in January 2020.

He was part of Antonio Conte’s side that won Serie A last season, though the Mail have not disclosed whether Spurs are among the sides looking at Eriksen.

Following his release by Inter, Eriksen has been training alone at Swiss club Chiasso, a short drive from his home in Milan.

The player’s agent, Martin Schoots, revealed last month that Eriksen is making great progress though is disappointed in Serie A’s regulations forbidding him to play.

“Things look good. And he is feeling good. All physical results are positive. Christian has his dreams,” Schoots said. “Christian is doing really well. He has been training himself for months and things are going very well.

“It was clear that we would work towards this solution for a long time. Italy is simply the only country where as a rule you can’t play with an ICD. So it’s a pity especially since Chris is so immensely loved by the fans. But on the other hand it’s also positive because Chris now can look at the future with another perspective.”
