Boxing WBC president revealed possibility
World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman has revealed that there is a possibility for Conor McGregor to compete for a world boxing title.
For this to happen, Sulaiman explained that the Irish boxer should clinch a win in the ring against a ranked fighter.
“I would say, he needs to face and defeat a ranked fighter, then he would be eligible to be ranked and to compete for a title,” Sulaiman told SunSport.
“We have plenty of examples of Muay Thai fighters, who turned professional in international boxing, and they are eligible to fight for the title,” he said.
“We also have amateur superstars like Vasiliy Lomachenko, they come into professional boxing and fight for the title and it’s proven it works.”
McGregor has mentioned on more than one occasion his desire to return to the world of boxing after his fight against Floyd Mayweather.
To get the opportunity to compete for the world boxing title he will have to beat a boxer who is ranked in the top 15.
McGregor will make his UFC return to face Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 257 on January 23.
