Serie A Equals John Charles’ achievement
Cristiano Ronaldo just keeps going and going, and he now has yet another record to his name, at least jointly, by equalling John Charles‘ record of 15 goals in the first 16 Serie A games of the season for Juventus.
That means Cristiano is enjoying the best goalscoring start to a league season of any Juventus player for 63 years, as Charles set the bar in the 1957/58 campaign.
Bear in mind, too, that Cristiano has only played in 13 of the Old Lady‘s 16 league games in 2020/21 due to missing two matches with COVID-19, making his feat all the more remarkable.
The forward, who will be 36 next month but shows no signs of slowing down in front of goal, is also just two goals away from being the top scoring footballer of all time.
Leading the way in Serie A this season with his 15 strikes, Cristiano is ahead of Romelu Lukaku (12) and Ciro Immobile (11) in the scoring charts.
Juve boss Andrea Pirlo understands why some suggest he depends on the Portugal international.
“He’s decisive like he was at Real Madrid, at Manchester United…it’s normal to depend on a champion like that,” said Pirlo.
