Croatia v Portugal Live Commentary & Result, 11/17/20, UEFA Nations League

Whilst Croatia’s loss against Sweden has made relegation a possibility tonight, it still remains an unlikely scenario. Dalic’s men are sitting on a goal-difference of +1, while Sweden are on -6. If Sweden fail to better Croatia’s result tonight, they’re almost certainly going down.

Portugal boss Fernando Santos makes similarly sweeping changes to his side after their 1-0 loss against France dashed their hopes of defending their Nations League crown. Bernardo Silva, Carvalho, Cancelo and Fonte all drop to the bench, while Guerreiro misses out entirely. Jota, Moutinho, Nelson Semedo, Ruben Semedo and Rui start in their places.

Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalic makes a resounding six changes to the team that were beaten 2-1 by Sweden last time out, with only Livakovic, Modric, Kovacic, Vlasic and Perisic keeping their places.

Portugal substitutes: Bernardo Silva, Rui Silva, Sergio Oliveira, William Carvalho, Paulinho, Ruben Neves, Trincao, Domingos Duarte, Anthony Lopes, Pedro Neto, Jose Fonte, Joao Cancelo.

Portugal XI (4-3-3): Rui Patricio; Nelson Semedo, Ruben Dias, Ruben Semedo, Mario Rui; Joao Moutinho, Danilo Pereira, Bruno Fernandes; Joao Felix, Cristiano Ronaldo, Diogo Jota.

Croatia substitutes: Toma Basic, Ivo Grbic, Mislav Orsic, Josip Brekalo, Dario Melnjak, Ante Budimir, Antonio-Mirko Colak, Milan Badelj, Bruno Petkovic, Borna Barisic, Simon Sluga.

Croatia XI (4-3-1-2): Dominik Livakovic; Josip Juranovic, Dejan Lovren, Mile Skoric, Domagoj Bradaric; Luka Modric, Marko Rog, Mateo Kovacic; Mario Pasalic; Nikola Vlasic, Ivan Perisic.

Portugal’s inferior head-to-head record against France means the inaugural winners of the Nations League are guaranteed to finish second in the group and will not be able to defend their crown next year. However, Croatia are still at risk of relegation, with just goal-difference keeping them ahead of Sweden going into this fixture.
