Three-time Dakar Rally winner Hubert Auriol has passed away at the age of 68 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Auriol was the first driver to win the Dakar Rally both with a motorbike (1981 and 1983) and with a car (1992), a feat which has since only been matched by Stephane Peterhansel and Nani Roma.

The Frenchman also served as race director for nine years, starting with the 1995 edition until 2004.
