Davinson Sanchez insists Harry Kane will be welcomed back into Spurs squad

Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez has stressed that the squad will have no problem welcoming Harry Kane back into the side, despite his continued push for a move away from the club.

Kane’s future has dominated headlines for a few weeks now after he no-showed training in the hope of forcing through a move to Manchester City – a transfer he still hopes will go through but is looking less and less likely with each passing day.

Chairman Daniel Levy is not prepared to sell Kane to an English side and would demand at least £150m to humour selling the striker, which is around £20m more than City are prepared to pay.

All the signs suggest Kane will remain a Spurs player beyond this summer, and Sanchez has insisted that the rest of the squad will have no problems welcoming him back into the fold.

“Harry is the best number nine in the world. There’s no doubt about it. If someone says differently they just do not understand football,” he said (via football.london).

“I’m his teammate so I can’t get deep on the situation because it’s a situation that it’s being discussed between Harry and the people above. We are just here to support him and if something happens then we are always going to be on his side.

“If he has the chance to be with us on the pitch then of course he’s going to help us, there’s no doubt about it.

“Everybody here knows just how professional he is and no-one can have any doubts about how good he is as a player, how good he is as a person and his professionalism, as I say.

“We are just on his side and any decision that happens or he makes then we are going to support him because he gives everything for the club. In my position, he helps me a lot as a player and as a captain he’s been very humble and is a very good person. I could keep going, I will never stop about how good he is as a person.”

Kane’s return to the field could come on Thursday as he has been included in Nuno Espirito Santo’s 25-man squad to face Pacos de Ferreira in the Europa Conference League play-off on Thursday.

On the new manager, Sanchez added: “Of course [I’m excited to work with him]. When a new manager comes everyone gets excited because there are a lot of changes, new challenges and we want to help him.

“Whoever is playing, we are together, we are pulling in the same direction to help the club.
Everybody has a big challenge this season. Maybe a few people haven’t put us in the race but definitely we’re going to fight for the right to be there.

“We believe in each other, we want to see how far we can go, we’ll take it game by game like always. Day by day at the start of the season, wins like this at the start of the campaign can mean a lot, we’ve beaten the champions but it’s the first game.

“The competition starts now. It’s a big three points but there’s such a long way to go and everyone can understand that.”
