Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence has confirmed he hopes to test himself in the Premier League in the near future.

The 21-year-old has excelled on loan with Nottingham Forest and attracted interest from some of the heavy hitters.

90min learned that Tottenham failed with a January bid to sign Spence, and Antonio Conte’s side remain interested. Alongside Spurs, Spence counts Arsenal and Bayern Munich among his suitors.

With Boro developing their own right wing-back in Isaiah Jones, who has caught the eye of Manchester United, the feeling is that Spence could be allowed to leave in the summer if the right offer is made, and the 21-year-old would be open to the move.

“I always want to push myself and play with the best players and best team,” he said. “Of course it’s an ambition of mine to play in the Premier League.

“I try to stay level-headed. I don’t read too much into it. At the end of the day, I’m just here to enjoy my football. I need to stay focused, have tunnel vision and play well on the pitch.”

Spence also took the chance to thank Arsenal legend Ian Wright for his high praise back in January, when his Forest side knocked the Gunners out of the Carabao Cup.

Wright admitted that Spence’s performance was one of the best he had seen from a right-back in a long time, and the 21-year-old was lost for words.

“Coming from a player like Ian, it means a lot for him to say that. I just want to keep improving and show everyone what I can do on the pitch.”
