Australian Open 2021 Didn’t hold back
Novak Djokovic has insisted there is no longer a need to have line judges on the tennis court after electric versions were used at the Australian Open.
The technology is making its debut in a Grand Slam, with lots of the players applauding the introduction of automatic line judges in Melbourne.
“I understand that, in the history of tennis, there have always been line umpires, but I’m in favour of the technology because it’s been proved that it’s much more effective,” Djokovic said.
“I don’t see a reason why we need the line umpires, to be honest, if we have technology like this.
“I would of course keep the ball kids, but line calls I’m in favour of this technology.”
Djokovic was speaking after knocking out Jeremy Chardy to reach the second round of the Australian Open.
