Conor McGregor’s upcoming rival Dustin Poirier is well known for his charitable work through his Good Fight foundation, getting the likes of as Dana White and Khabib Nurmagomedov to donate large sums to the cause.

Nicknamed ‘The Diamond’, due to his rough fighting style in the early stages of his MMA career, Poirier was raised by his mother and grandmother in Lafayette, Louisiana.

There, he earned the reputation of a tough guy through fights and dropped out of high school to pursue MMA, although he didn’t officially debut until he was 20 years old.

He appeared in the UFC for the first time in 2011 but his poor defence led to several defeats.

After a huge win over Jim Miller in January 2017, Dustin was offered to fight former lightweight champion and MMA legend Eddie Alvarez at UFC 211.

Despite neither of the two winning that fight, it was the one that brought him into the limelight.

Poirier went on to beat Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez to earn a spot in the top four of lightweight fighters.

He then defeated Max Holloway at UFC 236 and got the chance to face Nurmagomedov, who had just dethroned McGregor, and was defeated by the Russian.

Now, McGregor will be the next rival of Poirier, whose career has been quite balanced despite the KO he suffered in the first round against ‘The Notorious’ at UFC 178, and his subsequent losses to Michael Johnson and Nurmagomedov.
