Ederson & Alisson share Castrol Golden Glove award

Brazil teammates Ederson and Alisson have split the Castrol Golden Glove award for the 2021/22 Premier League season.

Manchester City stopper Ederson and Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson each kept 20 clean sheets this season to share the gong.

Their sides battled it out in a thrilling title race that went right down to the final day of the season, with Man City securing a late comeback against Aston Villa to pip Liverpool to top spot.

Though they officially split the award, Alisson conceded 24 goals to Ederson’s 26, while he also had a better clean sheet rate after playing one fewer game this season – this was a tiebreaker for the award from 2004 to 2013.

Ederson has now won the Castrol Golden Glove for a third straight season, meaning Petr Cech and Joe Hart are the only goalkeepers to have claimed it on more occasions.

Alisson, meanwhile, takes home the prize for the first time since his debut 2018/19 campaign at Anfield.

The two Brazilian keepers finished four clean sheets of their nearest rivals for the award, with Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris keeping 16. Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy, who for much of the season looked like a challenger to Ederson and Alisson, ended the campaign with 14 clean sheets after the Blues’ form nosedived down the stretch.
