England kick off their hotly-anticipated Euro 2022 campaign on Wednesday evening as they take on Austria at Old Trafford.

Where is the match being played? Old Trafford
TV channel/live stream? BBC One (UK)

Sarina Wiegman has confirmed that all 23 members of her squad are fit and available for Wednesday evening’s fixture. Lucy Bronze is back, having missed out during England’s final pre-tournament friendly against Switzerland due to illness.

The major question marks surrounding Wiegman’s team selection revolve around where captain Leah Williamson will start, either at centre-back or in central midfield as one of two holding players, who will miss out at centre-half should Williamson be deployed in defence, and who will get the nod at left-back between Demi Stokes and Rachel Daly.

It was announced on Monday that Austria duo Maria Plattner and Lisa Kolb had been forced to withdraw from their country’s Euro 2022 squad – the former after suffering a broken collar bone in training, and the latter due to Covid-19. Virginia Kirchberger and Annabel Schasching have been called up in their place.

England: Earps; Bronze, Bright, Williamson, Daly; Walsh, Stanway, Kirby; Mead, White, Hemp.

Austria: Zinnsberger; Wienroither, Wenninger, Schnaderbek, Hanshaw; Zadrazil, Puntigam, Feiersinger; Naschenweng, Billa, Dunst.

Austria are a difficult side to break down, having conceded just three times during Euro 2022 qualifying – all in one match against France. They frustrated England when the pair met in World Cup qualifying in November, with the Lionesses edging to a 1-0 win thanks to an Ellen White strike.

Although nerves will be expected due to the enormity of the occasion, this England side have learned to be ruthless and perform under pressure during Wiegman’s tenure, and a narrow, hard-fought win seems the most likely outcome.

Score prediction: England 2-0 Austria
