Erling Haaland ‘sad’ Jadon Sancho has signed for Manchester United

Erling Haaland has admitted that he was sad to see Jadon Sancho seal a move to Manchester United.

The pair enjoyed a fruitful partnership during one-and-a-half seasons together at Borussia Dortmund. Without the duo’s success in the final third it is extremely unlikely that Dortmund would have secured Champions League football last campaign.

Sancho has long been targeted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs and after two years of intense speculation, he finally sealed a move to United this summer.

Speaking about his teammate’s departure at Dortmund’s pre-season training camp, Haaland confessed he was disappointed to see him go.

“Jadon and I had a really good understanding, he’s a top player and it’s sad he’s gone, but that’s football,” he said (via the Mirror).

“There are a number of other players I work well with. It can even be better. We’ll just have to see who I work best with.”

Haaland is widely expected to follow Sancho out of the exit door in the near future. The striker has a £75m release clause which is activated at the end of the season, although Chelsea remain keen to sign him this summer.

As 90min reported last month, the Blues are prepared to offer Dortmund as much as £150m for the player and the Bundesliga side might be tempted to cash in. Haaland is not the only striker in Chelsea’s sights, though.

The club remain in constant contact with Inter over a deal for Romelu Lukaku, who left the club back in 2014. They were also offered the chance to sign Antoine Griezmann.

If Haaland does not depart, Dortmund will be banking on him striking up a successful partnership with Donyell Malen. The forward has recently signed from PSV on a five-year deal and his arrival may result in manager Marco Rose deploying two strikers this campaign.
