Hockey San Jose Sharks star
In one of the more shocking developments in American sports, Evander Kane of the San Jose Sharks has officially filed for bankruptcy, despite being currently employed on a 49-million-dollar contract in the NHL.
His extension with the San Jose franchise came in 2018, with a total amount of 49 million dollars being paid to him over a period of seven years.
However, in the face of debts incurred and the legal claims of several creditors, the winger has accepted the legal course of declaring bankruptcy before a federal court.
According to the website CapFriendly, he has earned 52.9 million dollars over his 11-year career in the NHL, but as revealed by The Athletic, he has a net debt of 26.8 million and is facing six lawsuits at this time.
