Ex-Barcelona player David Wood among those in assault on the Capitol

While the courts of the NBA were packed with indignant stars, another former basketball player was taking part in the assault on the Capitol in Washington DC.

David Wood, now aged 56, played for the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors and Milwaukee Bucks, and he signed for Barcelona in 1989 to replace Audie Norris.

The center was known for his aggressive style which earned him the nickname of ‘Gladiator’.

Wood played across Spain, also joining Unicaja, Taugres, Murcia, Canarias and Fuenlabrada among others.

Now, he’s a Donald Trump supporter and didn’t hesitate to support the protest on Wednesday, live streaming the assault on the Capitol before deleting it hours later.

“I’ve deleted most of my posts from today. I went to the protest at the Capitol with president Trump to pray,” Wood posted on Facebook.

“Many people sent me messages to keep them informed, so I lived it through streaming because I thought people wanted to see what was happening.

“I found it extremely safe and surrounded by people who love our country.

“However, I saw 10 people shouting angrily who could be problematic; people are angry because their votes won’t count, because illegal votes aren’t ruled out and I don’t blame them for that.

“I don’t support angry energy and I don’t know anyone who I saw in the Capitol last night. I wasn’t there to protest, but to hear and see.”

He then posted again hours later to apologise.

“I want to apologise because in my heaven and humanity I made a mistake on the 6th, I believed that the change would happen in biblical proportions, but it seems it’s not today,” Wood posted.

He did, however, still insist that there had been fraud in the election.

“Before the next president is sworn in, you’ll see with shock and surprise that electoral fraud is exposed and president Trump will get four more years,” he insisted.
