Gareth Southgate on how Bukayo Saka has improved this season

Gareth Southgate has discussed how Bukayo Saka has added a ruthless streak to his game recently after his star turn in England’s win over Ukraine.

The Arsenal ‘Starboy’ set up the opener with a lovely cross to England’s record goalscorer Harry Kane, before bagging a goal of his own – firing the ball into the top corner from fully 25-yards out.

Speaking to Channel 4 after the game, England manager Southgate was full of praise of Saka, hailing his improvements in front of goal in particular, stating: “It is a top-level finish [from Saka].

“That is the ruthless part he has added to his game in the last 18 months or so. There were times you weren’t sure he was going to finish, but now he has that confidence in front of goal.”

As well as impressing for England, Saka has been in stunning form for Arsenal. Despite being just 21 years old, the forward developed into one of the most effective players in the Premier League this season, scoring 12 and creating 10 goals as Arsenal have mounted an unlikely title challenge.

Saka will return to club action on 1st April when the Gunners welcome Leeds United to the Emirates Stadium.

The Three Lions made light work of Ukraine at Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening, taking a 2-0 lead in the first half before cruising through the second.

England have now won both of their Euro 2024 qualifiers thus far, having also beaten Italy in Naples 2-1, and will go into the qualifiers in June in a commanding position in Group C.
