NBA Currently without a team
Pau Gasol is working hard to recover from his injury in order to enjoy the final stages of his career.
The 40-year-old is without a team after leaving the Milwaukee Bucks and will need to join a new side in order to get back up to speed if he is to be selected by Spain for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Asked about the possibility of a return to the LA Lakers, Gasol was in favour, but admits he has little say over the matter.
“Well, that wouldn’t be bad, but it depends on several factors, some of which I do not control,” he told La Repubblica.
“And that’s why, at this moment, I prefer to focus on the daily work that allows me to get over my injury. Once this goal is achieved, everything that comes after will be special and I intend to enjoy it.”
Gasol also spoke about his time at Barcelona and his pride at being appointed as a club ambassador.
“Barcelona are very important to me. Not only for having played there before going to the NBA, but also because it is my hometown club and in which my brother also played,” he said.
“And that is why it was a pleasure for me to be appointed as Barcelona’s strategic advisor and global ambassador.”
Finally, Gasol reflected on the passing of his close friend Kobe Bryant.
“There are still days when I find it difficult to believe that he is no longer with us and, when I remember him, I feel a great sense of emptiness,” he said.
“Without a doubt, the lesson that he leaves us is that we should all live life to the fullest. Because we don’t know what will happen tomorrow.”
