Harry Maguire resumes light Man Utd training

Manchester United have been handed a major injury boost with captain Harry Maguire returning to light training as he steps up his recovery from a calf problem.

Maguire suffered the knock in his side’s defeat to Aston Villa last month and he has been sidelined ever since.

This injury saw him miss his side’s games against Villarreal and Everton as well as England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary. He will play no part against former club Leicester on Saturday afternoon too.

However, prior to that game, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided a promising update on when Maguire might be fit again.

“Harry was on the grass this morning and that was the first day out there,” Solskjaer told the assembled media.

The news is a big boost for United with Maguire’s go-to centre-back partner, Raphael Varane, picking up an injury while on Nations League duty with France. As a result Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly are set to start against Leicester, who boast a wealth of attacking talent.

In further good news Marcus Rashford is back in the squad for the trip to the King Power Stadium. Rashford has been recovering from shoulder surgery, which he underwent after Euro 2020.

United are keen for the forward – who has been a mainstay of the starting XI since bursting onto the scene as a teenager – to build up his muscle mass to prevent injuries affecting his availability in the future.

Although they will be without Maguire and Varane, United will be confident of getting a result against a Leicester side who have made a stuttering start to the season.

Three points would be extremely welcome too, with the Red Devils picking up just one win in four games prior to the international break.
