FC Barcelona – La Liga PSG star spoke ahead of Barcelona tie
Ander Herrera spoke about the upcoming tie between Barcelona and PSG in the Champions League and his teammates Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Herrera was also asked whether or not his team will try to sign Lionel Messi in the summer.
“I don’t think there will be a favourite to win this one, one of the teams has Messi so it will always be 50-50,” Herrera told ‘El Larguero’ on SER.
“I think the key is to make life uncomfortable for [Frenkie] De Jong and Messi. I’m not sure whether [Ronald] Araujo will play but if he does, he will make things difficult, he is rapid.”
Various PSG players have spoken out about their desire for Messi to sign for the Parisians, but Herrera was more reserved.
“When Barcelona talk about Neymar, I don’t like it, so I won’t make a comment,” he said.
Pressed on the possibility of seeing Neymar and Mbappe playing with Messi, the former Real Zaragoza man said it would be difficult.
“I don’t know how Financial Fair Play works, but I doubt it, although I have seen everything in football.”
Messi’s contract isn’t the only one in dispute, with speculation still rife about Neymar and Mbappe.
“Their contracts expire in 2022 and talks regarding contract renewals are ongoing. It’s logical being the big stars they are,” he said.
“Since September, Neymar has been really involved, his goal is to win all titles with PSG, he feels important.
“Neymar is a natural leader and Mbappe is very young, he is going to be one of the best but we mustn’t force him to lead the team yet.”
For Herrera, however, Messi is still the best.
“Messi is the best footballer that I have seen and the best that I have played against, and that is the truth,” he said.
