McGregor vs Poirier | UFC 257 Pair meet again
Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will face each other for the second time in Abu Dhabi on Saturday night, in what seems like a lifetime since their first encounter.
The first fight between the two was at UFC 178 in September 2014, when McGregor emerged as winner in just the first round.
Since that meeting in in Las Vegas, both fights have taken big strides in their careers both inside and outside of the octagon.
“He’s a completely different animal,” Poirier‘s coach Mike Brown told MMA Fighting.
“He’s changed so much since then, just his outlook on the fight, his style, his body has changed. Just the way he approaches fights is so dramatically different than that time.
“We’re in a different weight class, in a different decade. A lot is different.”
Going into his first bout with Poirier, McGregor had just beaten Marcus Brimage, Max Holloway and Diego Brandao in UFC and was getting in range of belts.
As for Poirier, he went into the first fight off the back of three successive wins and was also on the verge of challenging for titles.
Both ‘The Notorious’ and ‘The Diamond’ were more boisterous in their younger years, with the former promising a knockout in the weigh-in.
The Irishman followed through on his words and dealt Poirier a killer blow inside the first round to stop the contest.
