Inter are nearing a deal which will see highly-rated Udinese talisman Rodrigo de Paul arrive in the summer, but a January move could yet be secured if the club can offload Christian Eriksen.
The former Tottenham man has endured a torrid time since arriving in Italy back in January 2020. Almost a year after departing north London, the Denmark international has mustered just 12 starts in Serie A and only one league goal.
Eriksen’s time at San Siro looks set to come to an end, with a whole host of clubs including Spurs and Arsenal rumoured to be keeping tabs on the midfielder, and it seems the Dane’s departure from Inter could green light a January move for De Paul.
The Argentina international has himself been the centre of much transfer speculation in recent months, with Premier League side Leeds keen to secure his services during the last transfer window.
Antonio Conte’s side now look favourites to land the midfielder, with Tuttosport claiming a summer deal is ‘in their [Inter’s] hands’.
The Nerazzurri are long-term admirers of De Paul and have been monitoring his performances since 2019, while the Udinese man is thought to be keen on a move to Conte’s side.
Currently the deal looks set to take place in the summer, but if Inter can offload Eriksen this month then De Paul’s arrival could yet be fast-tracked.
Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots is in contact with a number of Premier League clubs regarding a possible move, with a loan move looking the most likely outcome.
Despite former club Spurs’ interest in the Denmark international, their unwillingness to deviate from the £20m asking price for Eriksen when he left the club for Inter in January 2020 means any potential move back to Tottenham looks unlikely right now.
