Inter Miami hires Martin Paterson as First Team assistant coach

Inter Miami names Martin Paterson as a First Team assistant coach, joining the Major League Soccer side after two seasons with the club’s lower division side Fort Lauderdale CF.

“Martin is a fantastic coach who has been instrumental to the growth of our young players with Fort Lauderdale CF over the last two seasons. He brings loads of experience as a player and now as a coach, and knows how to use that to teach players,” said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.

“We’re excited to have him as part of our First Team staff and we’re happy to see our development pathway is producing both players and coaches.”

At Fort Lauderdale, Paterson worked to develop a number of players now on Inter Miami’s roster, including Geroge Acosta, Edison Azcona, Drake Callendar and Felipe Valencia.

Before becoming a coach, Paterson played for several clubs in his native England, spending the majority of it as a forward for Burnley FC. He recorded over 150 appearances for the Clarets, managing 37 goals and 14 assists.

Paterson also spent time at Stoke City, Grimsby Town, Scunthorpe United, Huddersfield Town, Bristol City, Fleetwood Town, Blackpool and Port Vale.

Inter Miami’s newest addition is no stranger to Major League Soccer, having spent one season with Orlando City SC in 2015. He was also with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2017, before joining the Rowdies’ coaching staff as an assistant in 2018.

Inter Miami returns to action on February 26 as they host the Chicago Fire at DRV PNK Stadium.
