FA Cup Ancelotti’s side advance in the FA Cup
Everton weren’t at their best against Championship strugglers Rotherham in the FA Cup, but a masterful assist from James Rodriguez in extra time unlocked the door to the next round.
James was making his return to the starting line-up after being wrapped in cotton wool throughout December as Everton carefully managed his return from injury.
The Colombian lacked sharpness, but his quality was ultimately the difference between the two sides.
Everton started the brighter team and took the lead with a dinked finish from Cenk Tosun after a fine vertical pass from Anthony Gordon.
Rotherham‘s enthusiasm wasn’t dampened, however, and the away side equalised when Matthew Olosunde took advantage of the break of the ball inside the area to fire across goal and beyond Robin Olsen.
The game headed into extra time, but it was early in the first additional period that James made his decisive contribution, cutting Rotherham open with a delightful ball for Abdoulaye Doucoure to finish for the win.
Everton return to league action on Tuesday when they travel to face Wolves.
