Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson is expected to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020, despite missing the last three months of Premier League action through injury.
The 30-year-old suffered a serious groin injury against Everton in February, and there were fears that this blow would not only keep him on the sidelines for the rest of the season, but also force him to miss out on the summer’s European action.
But the Mirror reports that Henderson has won his race against time to regain fitness ahead of Euro 2020, and that he will be named in Southgate’s squad for the summer competition.
England medics went to Liverpool’s training ground last week to assess the midfielder’s fitness and his chances of making a return for the opening group game with Croatia on June 13, and they were satisfied with his progress.
And with the Three Lions boss now reassured that Henderson will be able to make an impact at Euro 2020, he is expected to include the Reds captain in his 26-man squad – which will be named on Tuesday, 25 May.

Henderson’s participation for England does not hinge on whether he features for Liverpool in the final game of the season against Crystal Palace. Jurgen Klopp’s men must win to secure Champions League qualification for next year, and they are in desperate need of their captain in the middle of the pitch.
But Klopp will not rush Henderson back for the do-or-die clash, and the ex-Sunderland star need not worry about impressing Southgate before the summer tournament.
Henderson has been a regular for Southgate in the England midfield, and if fully fit, is almost guaranteed of a starting place. Kalvin Phillips has been filling Henderson’s shoes for the Three Lions in recent months, but the Liverpool skipper is the preferred option if available.
