Jose Mourinho clashes with journalist after heavy Roma defeat

Roma boss Jose Mourinho was in no mood to discuss his side’s 3-0 defeat to Inter on Saturday, clashing with a journalist in a particularly prickly post-match press conference.

After the biggest summer spending spree in Serie A, Roma are down in fifth in the table and sit 13 points behind leaders AC Milan after 16 games, with eight wins and seven defeats to their name.

Mourinho’s men were blown out the water by Inter, who netted three times within 39 minutes through Hakan Calhanoglu, Edin Dzeko and Denzel Dumfries, and when he sat down for his press conference after the game, the ‘Special One’ made it clear he was not prepared to answer any questions.

One journalist chose to push their luck with Mourinho, to which the boss responded: “Your job is a lot easier than ours which is why we earn a lot more than you.”

After that encounter, he launched a defence of his side’s result by claiming that they were never going to beat Inter anyway.

“Inter are better than us on a good day. Inter are objectively better than us,” he said. “This became an extremely difficult match tonight because of absentees.

“They finished 29 points above us last season. We had three big chances, two of which came at 0-0.”

Mourinho is rumoured to be under pressure in Rome, with journalist Pedro Almeida among those claiming that his job is on the line because an underwhelming start to the season has started to attract plenty of unwanted attention.

Their have even been reports from the Mirror that Everton are keeping a close eye on the situation as they consider the future of their own manager, Rafa Benitez, after a run of just one win from their last 11 games.

Mourinho remains on a lucrative contract until 2024 and would not be cheap to sack or buy out, which could complicate things if Roma‘s results continue to underwhelm.
