Championship Difficult situation at St. Andrew’s
Aitor Karanka has a fairly strong reputation in English football after his fine work with Middlesbrough, yet in his current job with Birmingham City he walked into an impossible situation, and he has moved to thank supporters for their support during lockdown.
Fans haven’t been permitted into the stadium for much of the time he has been in charge of the Midlands club, but as the nation has moved into a third lockdown period, the Spaniard has been vocal in his support to fans.
“Even in these difficult moments that we’re going through, your support is appreciated,” Karanka posted on social media.
“We miss you in the stadium, but we can feel your breath, [to a fan injured in a traffic accident] please get well as soon as possible.”
Birmingham currently sit in 18th position in the Championship, just four points above the relegation zone, however Karanka has had to work with a full rebuild of the team after serious financial problems hit the club in 2019.
