FC Barcelona – La Liga The Dutchman hasn’t bitten his tongue
Ronald Koeman has lost patience with his Barcelona players. It’s not the first time that the Dutchman has found himself frustrated with his team’s shortcomings, but he hasn’t often been as angry as he was after the Catalans’ win against Cornella on Thursday.
Barcelona missed two penalties on the night, with goalkeeper Ramon Juan putting in a remarkable performance.
“We missed two penalties, we had chances,” Koeman said afterwards.
“A team like Barcelona cannot fail so much.
“I really don’t know why we’ve missed so many penalties. It can’t be this way.
“We’ve progressed, but we can’t be happy.”
This isn’t the first time that Koeman has bemoaned his players’ shortcomings this season. After the game against Sevilla, for example, he had some harsh words for Antoine Griezmann.
“He should have scored at least one goal with the two chances he had,” Koeman said, but he’s had similar comments for his other forwards as well.
“Individual mistakes are costing us goals,” the coach said of his defenders after the game against Eibar.
He also had similar words of concern after the loss at Cadiz.
“It’s not easy to explain how we conceded the second goal, we’re lacking aggression,” he said after that game.
Barcelona progressed in the Copa del Rey, but Koeman isn’t happy. He is continuing to insist that the club sign a centre-back in Eric Garcia, and he wants another forward as well.
He’s not likely to get either this winter, though, and he’ll have to find a way to get as far as the summer with the players currently at his disposal.
