FC Barcelona – La Liga Has ideas about how Barcelona can strengthen
Ronald Koeman has already put together his plans for how he would like his Barcelona team to look from this summer onwards.
However, the Dutchman is having to wait for the results of the presidential elections at the club on March 7 before informing Joan Laporta, Victor Font or Toni Freixa of his ideas.
Regardless of who becomes president, the three presidential candidates are all aware that one of the first things they will have to do is have an urgent meeting with Koeman.
The Barcelona boss made no secret of his desire last summer to sign a centre-back and a forward, with Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay identified as viable options. Koeman pushed for the Blaugrana to try and bring in the Manchester City defender in January too, six months before his contract comes to an end, but ultimately the deal did not come to fruition.
Koeman has long called for Barcelona‘s presidential elections to be delayed no longer, and the club will have their new president in two weeks’ time. In recent weeks, the Dutchman has been able to put together a list of his ideas and plans ahead of the new president’s arrival.
Barcelona have emerged a surprising candidate to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, despite their crippling financial situation.
On Saturday, Koeman refused to confirm nor deny any interest in the 20-year-old, saying that a president must be chosen first before any transfer market-related questions can be answered.
“I have my ideas for the future of the club. I have to wait until there is a president, sit down and talk about the future,” Koeman said.
Now, it remains to be seen whether Laporta, Font or Freixa will take on Koeman‘s ideas about Barcelona‘s short-term future. Everything will depend on March 7.
