Kubo boxed in: Set to play against his parent club with three different teams

On Tuesday, Getafe will visit the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano to play out what was supposed to be the first match of the LaLiga Santander season.

After leaving Unai Emery’s Villarreal, Takefusa Kubo quickly started to realise that he would experience the rare phenomenon of playing against his parent club twice in a season.

Kubo, who is looking to burst on the scene at Real Madrid in the future, faced Los Blancos on November 21, for Villarreal, despite only playing a few minutes.

However, since his move to Getafe, the Japanese forward has played in all games and has started the last four matches leading many to believe that he will be coming up against his parent club once more.

Kubo, who played all three matches of Real Madrid’s 2019 pre-season US tour, is set to face his parent club in a third different shirt.

Last season Kubo was on loan at Real Mallorca and featured in both the 1-0 win for Mallorca and the 2-0 win for Real Madrid at Valdebebas.

“If he [Kubo] could just stay at home, it would be better,” said Zidane prior to the two teams’ meeting back in 2020.

Kubo grew whilst at Real Mallorca and with another loan move beckoning last summer, Villarreal expressed their interest in the Japanese starlet.

After only making 13 appearances for Villarreal, Kubo decided to terminate his loan contract and move.

Kubo now returns to Valdebebas, after having experienced some continuity in his game.

The talented youngster will be looking to get back amongst the goals as he hasn’t scored since July 9.

Will he do the unexpected and the unprecedented and score against his parent club? Only time will tell.
